The running of the H. & T.C. Railroad to Navasota in 1859 changed a sleepy settlement into a hub of business and economic activity. Navasota became the shipping and cotton-processing center of the region. Today, major railroads still serve Navasota and its industries, contributing to the economic vitality of Grimes County.
This thriving community of 7,000 residents is one of the oldest in the Brazos Valley. In its quiet neighborhoods, Victorian-era homes can be found along with newer residences. It is 70 miles from Houston, 189 miles from Dallas/Ft. Worth, 114 miles from Austin, 115 miles from Waco and 21 miles from College Station-Bryan.
Interstate 45, connecting Houston and Dallas is just 43 miles from Navasota. Interstate 10, which links Houston and San Antonio, is approximately the same distance. State Highway 105 connects Navasota to State Highway 290 at Brenham, just 90 miles from Austin, the state capitol.
