Police Chief

A life time Texas native, born and raised in Levelland, Texas. Shawn Myatt began a career in law enforcement in 1993 working for the Lamb County Sheriff’s office as a Jailer and Communications Operator. After attending South Plains College Police Academy he became a Deputy Sheriff. Shawn has been promoted to many positions throughout his career ranging from Patrol Sergeant to Investigator. The last 18 years Shawn has been a Police Chief in the cities of Sundown, Colorado City, and Navasota. He was recently promoted to Assistant City Manager and Director of Public Safety for the City of Navasota. He graduated at Tarleton State University in December of 2016 with a Bachelor’s of Applied Arts and Science Degree in Criminal Justice Administration. He is a member of Texas Police Chiefs Association (TPCA) and Kiwanis. Shawn has a twenty-year-old daughter who is attending Blinn College.


The Patrol Division consists of 14 certified police officers. Officers patrol the city limits enforcing laws and preventing crime, making traffic stops, responding to dispatched calls, working accidents, and serving arrest warrants. Two officers serve as School Resource Officers and are assigned to the Navasota Independent School District.

Criminal Investigation

The Criminal Investigation Division consists of four investigators responsible for the investigation and/or follow up investigation of offenses reported to the Navasota Police Department with one investigator specializing in Narcotics Enforcement.


The Communications Division consists of five dispatchers and operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It is the primary link between the public and the emergency services of the Navasota Police Department and the Navasota Fire Department and serves as the Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) for all 9-1-1 calls within the City of Navasota.
