Building Department Code Enforcement

The Building Department safeguards public health and safety, property values, and visual aesthetics by enforcing the city's code of ordinances.

This department regulates the design, construction, locations, use occupancy, maintenance of all buildings and structures within the city. The Building Department is responsible for enforcing the City's Building, Plumbing, Mechanical and Electrical codes, and issuing permits for the construction of buildings, signs, swimming pools, driveways, etc. They also enforce zoning, health and sanitation, and junk vehicle abatement.

The goal of the code enforcement program is to encourage voluntary compliance and avoid punitive actions (citations). A helping hand approach is more successful than the punitive approach as citizens may not be aware that their actions are in violation of city ordinances. This department will make every effort to notify the respective parties of any violations that may need to be remedied and give a time period to allow all work to be completed.
