Neighborhood Watch

A Neighborhood Watch is an organized effort by concerned residents to look out for each other's safety, and to help law enforcement officers protect people and their homes against criminals. It shows people how to cooperate with each other, and with police, in a common cause - safe homes and neighborhoods.

Working together, neighbors learn how to safeguard each other's homes and reduce the risk of crime. They become more alert to unusual or suspicious circumstances, individuals, or vehicles. They learn that it is better to call the police when they see something suspicious, even if their suspicion proves unfounded, rather than to keep quiet and risk letting a neighbor be victimized by criminals.

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT

The National Night Out program was started in Navasota in 2002 to get citizens out to meet their neighbors. The program is a nation-wide program to help create healthy neighborhoods block by block. The program is to help make neighborhoods safer for citizens and for the children in the neighborhoods.

National Night Out is always on the first Tuesday in August. Citizens are encouraged to have block parties during the evening as a means of getting to know your neighbor. The block parties can be registered with the Navasota Police Department to ensure that representatives from the City attend the party.

The National Night Out program allows citizens to meet police officers and firemen on a individual basis rather than meeting police officers during a traffic stop or during an emergency. The Navasota Fire Department has been involved in the program since it was started.

The National Night Out is part of the program to develop Neighborhood Watch programs. The Neighborhood Watch program helps neighborhoods become more aware of the activities in their neighborhoods. The program will help reduce criminal activities in the neighborhoods.
